SRX at I-55 Raceway 2022 drivers, how to watch, stream: Ryan Newman, Paul Tracy picks from proven model
Written by ABC AUDIO ALL RIGHTS RESERVED on July 17, 2022
Last week’s 2022 Superstar Racing Experience event in Nashville on Paramount+ featured more contact and minor collisions than any other race this season. The high-impact nature of last weekend’s main event is a sign that the drivers in the Camping World SRX Series are feeling a greater sense of urgency with just two races left on the schedule. The circuit heads to I-55 Raceway this Saturday in Pevely, Missouri, with a wide-open opportunity for several drivers to come away with the top spot in the season point standings.
The main event begins at 8 p.m. ET, at a venue famous for its modified car races and clay surface. You can see who steps up by watching live on CBS or streaming the race on Paramount+ with their must-have Premium plan.
Paramount+ now has levels of membership so you can watch the SRX Series and much more. The Premium Plan is $9.99 per month and you can watch your local CBS live stream (including plenty of sports like SEC on CBS, NFL on CBS, and the PGA Tour), no ads, on demand and the ability to download episodes for offline viewing. Top SRX at Missouri picks
Before you tune in to Saturday’s race, you need to see the picks from SportsLine’s advanced computer model. SportsLine’s proprietary racing model, developed by Mike McClure, simulates every race 10,000 times, taking into account a slew of factors including track history and recent results.
Last season, the model was all over Stewart finishing on top of the leaderboard at the SRX Series at Eldora. The model also called Stewart winning at Knoxville, and now it has dialed in on Saturday’s SRX race at South Boston Speedway. In 2021, the model nailed five of Kyle Larson’s wins during a historic NASCAR Cup Series season, and has also gone 15-10 on its head-to-head matchup predictions to start 2022. Earlier this season it was high on Ross Chastain to win in Austin, giving him a far better shot to win than his 40-1 odds implied. The model was also high on Joey Logano before he won as a 15-1 underdog at Darlington. Anyone who followed its lead on those plays saw huge returns.
For Saturday, the model predicts that Paul Tracy can’t get his wheels underneath him and finishes at the rear of the pack. Tracy’s best finish on the series last season was fifth in two races, one of which came on a dirt surface at Eldora, but that followed another dirt race at Knoxville where he completed just four laps in the main event. This season, Tracy is sixth in the series point standings but a fair amount off the lead, and his best finish in any race stage was third place in the main event of the July 2 race at Stafford Motor Speedway.
In five of the 12 total race stages during this season’s events, Tracy has been in the bottom three of all drivers. Tracy’s background has primarily been driving indy-style cars, and the short oval in Pevely, Missouri could be problematic. After the bumps that drivers exchanged last week, things appear even more volatile this Saturday on a short track with a slick surface.
Tracy shouldn’t be expected to mix it up with other more aggressive drivers in the field like Tony Stewart, who won both dirt track events last season.
