The New Orleans Saints may be without running back Mark Ingram this weekend. According to a report from Jeff Duncan of the Times-Picayune, the team will place Ingram on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Ingram is vaccinated, per the Times-Picayune, which means he can return to the team whenever he next registers two negative tests at least 24 hours apart. It is not known at this time whether or not Ingram is experiencing any symptoms.

Fellow running back Alvin Kamara returned to practice on Wednesday and is expected to play this Sunday against the Jets. He has been out since suffering a knee injury during the team’s Week 9 loss to the division rival Atlanta Falcons. In his absence, Ingram has gotten the majority of the work at running back, though Tony Jones Jr., Ty Montgomery, and Adam Prentice have recently worked into the rotation as well.

If Ingram is indeed placed on the COVID-19 list and has to miss Sunday’s game, it’s reasonable to expect Kamara to handle the majority of the work, though the team may seek to limit him because he has been out for several weeks. The Saints already have injury issues all over the offense, and Ingram’s potential absence due to COVID-19 could affect their performance in a negative way — even against the Jets.
