Patriots plan to acknowledge Tom Brady breaking NFL passing yards record, but won’t stop game, per report

Tom Brady is just 68 yards away from breaking the NFL’s all-time passing yards record, and he’s set up to accomplish the feat against the team he spent 20 years playing for — the New England Patriots. So, what will happen when the Patriots legend makes history? Will New England stop the game?
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots plan to acknowledge Brady for breaking the NFL‘s all-time passing yards record — but won’t stop the game. Brady, obviously now the quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, threw for 74,571 of his 80,291 passing yards with the New England Patriots — the most for one team in NFL history.
In contrast with how the Saints handled Drew Brees breaking Peyton Manning’s passing yards mark in 2018, New Orleans stopped the game as Pro Football Hall of Fame President David Baker acknowledged Brees with the football he set the record with as his family came onto the field. Brees was also playing in the SuperDome and for the Saints when he set the record three years ago, whereas Brady is the quarterback of the visiting team — even though he led the Patriots to six Super Bowl titles in his 20 seasons there.
“I’ve played in a lot of big games. This is a big game for our team, a big game for our guys,” Brady said last week leading up to the game. “We had a tough loss last week. We want to get back track, get back to winning. You’ve got to do things right, right? Obviously, this team challenges you to do it the right way. They do a lot of difficult things for the offense. It will be a big challenge for us.
“I’m just going to try to do what I always do: Go be a great quarterback. Obviously, I understand the opponent, I know all those guys, they’re some of my great friends [and] they will be for the rest of my life. I know a lot of coaches, players, the owners, the staff. It will be great to see everyone after the game, but up until the game I’m focused on trying to go win a football game.”
