Liverpool will be shorthanded due to Africa Cup of Nations duty and injuries when the Reds face League One side Shrewsbury Town on Sunday in the FA Cup. Liverpool already had an EFL Cup match postponed vs. Arsenal last week, but Sunday’s match will go ahead as scheduled. Liverpool will definitely be without Naby Keita, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane in this one.

Here’s are storylines, how you can watch the match and more:

How to watch and odds

  • Date: Sunday, Jan. 9 | Time: 9:00 a.m. ET
  • Location: Anfield — Liverpool, England
  • Live stream: ESPN+
  • Odds: Liverpool -440; Shrewsbury +1100; Draw +470 (via Caesars Sportsbook)

Storylines

Liverpool: While Jurgen Klopp has recovered from COVID to return to the sidelines, it is unknown who will be available for Liverpool in this fixture. With their top forwards at AFCON, they may want to bubble wrap Diogo Jota but options are short with Divok Origi injured at the moment. Shrewsbury and Liverpool have some history in the FA Cup with the Reds needing a replay to advance in the 2019-20 season but there will be no replay rounds this time around.

Shrewsbury Town: The Shrews have seen off Stratford Town and Carlisle United in the FA Cup this season in away matches, but this trip is of a different caliber. Sitting in 15th place in League One, they’ll hope that Liverpool will rotate heavily to provide a chance but this is a competition where anything can happen.

Prediction

This will be a closer match than expected but I’m backing the Reds to get the job done. Pick: Liverpool 3, Shrewsbury 1
