The Champions League is back in action on Paramount+ this Wednesday.

Who’s Playing

Ajax @ Benfica

What to Know

Ajax is set to challenge Benfica in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 at 3 p.m. ET February 23rd at Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica (da Luz). The winner will be decided by the aggregate score of two legs.

Ajax capped off a successful run in the group stage with a 4-2 win over Sporting CP last month. Benfica did the same and won 2-0 over Dynamo Kyiv.

Ajax made it to the group stage last season but failed to advance to the knockout phase. In subsequent Europa League play, they made it as far as the quarter-finals but did not advance further. As for Benfica, they lost in the third qualifying round to PAOK on scores of 1-1 and 1-1. They were later eliminated from the Europa League by Arsenal in the round of 32.

Given their more successful run in the Europa League last year, Ajax appears to have the advantage here; we’ll see if that holds up. Check back at CBSSports.com to keep track of this and all the UEFA Champions League events.
