Fantasy Basketball Week 13: Wednesday’s who’s hot, who’s not, and a DFS bargain play for Thursday

The usual fantasy basketball studs dominated Wednesday’s nine-game slate for the most part. James Harden thrived in his return from his one-game absence and was joined by LeBron James and Jayson Tatum among the cream of the crop. The Spurs‘ Dejounte Murray stole the show with a personal record-setting night, though. We’ve chosen to highlight a trio of Wednesday’s top performers, update you on recent duds, and look ahead to one of Thursday’s most desirable DFS plays ahead of the five-game slate.
Who’s hot
On Wednesday, Murray scored a career-high 32 points with 10 rebounds and 11 assists against the Rockets. The Spurs point guard is still stuffing the stat sheet in the new year. In January, he’s averaging 24.8 points, 9.8 assists, and 7.4 rebounds. Murray’s tallied three double-doubles through five 2022 contests. He’s a serious threat to finish the year as a top fantasy point guard.
The NBA‘s top bench scorer is still dominating off the pine. Miami has won three straight games without Jimmy Butler, and Herro has averaged 23.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game during the Heat’s hot streak. He racked up 21 points, nine rebounds, and 11 assists in Wednesday’s victory against the Hawks. Herro’s averaged 20.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 14 appearances without Butler in the lineup this season.
Robinson was relegated to the bench early in 2022 but has reclaimed his spot in the starting lineup over his last four games. He’s averaged 16 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game over his last two contests. While Nerlens Noel is back in the rotation, Robinson’s recent production level could help him finish Week 13 on a high note.
Who’s not
Westbrook’s managed his turnover numbers lately, but his offense has struggled. The Lakers have lost two straight, and their point guard has averaged 7.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 6.0 assists on 15.3 percent shooting during his team’s latest slide. Westbrook’s gone 0-for-15 from deep in his last six games, so Roto League managers should be plenty frustrated with him tanking their field goal percentages. Avoid paying up for him in DFS while he figures things out, and consider starting a lower-risk guard in season-long leagues if you need efficiency toward the end of the week.
Top DFS target
Anfernee Simons will miss the Trail Balzers’ Thursday matchup against the Nuggets, so Smith will likely make his fourth start of the season. The backup point guard’s previous three starts came in early December of 2021, and he averaged 15.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 6.0 rebounds. Smith tallied more than 30 DraftKings points in each of those contests and will likely be one of the best value plays on the slate.
