College football odds, lines, picks, predictions for Week 2, 2021: Proven model backing Iowa State, Michigan
Written by Lucky Wilson | KGTO Writer on September 8, 2021
After a one-year hiatus, No. 18 Iowa and No. 7 Iowa State will renew their rivalry as part of the Week 2 college football schedule. Iowa has won the last five meetings and holds a 45-22 series edge, but the Cyclones will be the better-ranked team when they meet Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET in Ames, Iowa. The Cyclones are four-point favorites in the Week 2 college football odds according to Caesars Sportsbook, as Iowa State looks to reclaim the Cy-Hawk Trophy.
Another ranked matchup will pit the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes against the No. 12 Oregon Ducks, with OSU a big 14-point favorite in the latest Week 2 college football spreads. This will be the teams’ first meeting since Ohio State’s 42-20 win over Oregon in the 2015 National Championship Game. Making your Week 2 college football bets on these games and others won’t be an easy task. So, before making any Week 2 college football picks or predictions, be sure to see the latest college football predictions and betting advice from SportsLine’s proven model.
The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every FBS college football game 10,000 times. Over the past five-plus years, the proprietary computer model has generated a stunning profit of over $3,600 for $100 players on its top-rated college football picks against the spread. It also entered Week 1 of the 2021 season on a 57-37 run on all top-rated college football picks. Anyone who has followed it has seen huge returns.
Now, it has turned its attention to the latest Week 2 college football odds from Caesars and locked in picks for every FBS matchup. Head here to see every pick.
Top Week 2 college football predictions
One of the top college football picks the model is recommending for Week 2: Iowa State covers as a four-point favorite against in-state rival Iowa. Few teams have the returning star power of the Cyclones with four-year starter Brock Purdy under center and consensus All-American Breece Hall in the backfield. The two of them combined for 326 of Iowa State’s 335 yards last week, and while Iowa may be able to contain one, stopping both players will be too much to ask for.
Both players are expected to shine in this heated rivalry as the model projects Purdy to pass for over 200 yards and a touchdown, while Hall rushes for 100 yards and a score. Meanwhile for Iowa, the Hawkeyes should continue to struggle to move the ball through the air after QB Spencer Petras could only muster 145 yards on 48.1 percent passing last week. The model has him doing slightly better in Week 2 but not enough to make a difference in the outcome. The model’s projections show the Cyclones covering the spread in over 50 percent of simulations.
Another one of the college football predictions from the model: Michigan (-6) covers against Washington in a Big Ten vs. Pac-12 matchup. Michigan took care of business last week against Western Michigan with a dominant ground game that racked up over 300 yards. The model sees it needing only half that yardage vs. Washington as QB Cade McNamara will pick apart the Huskies defense through the air. The SportsLine model projects McNamara to throw for over 200 yards and two touchdowns vs. a vulnerable Huskies defense.
Washington had, perhaps, the most shocking Week 1 result as it fell to FCS school Montana 13-7. QB Dylan Morris threw three interceptions and things won’t get any easier against an improved Wolverines defense in The Big House. Washington is projected to only muster 22 points against Michigan and the simulations have the Wolverines scoring 34. The model has Michigan covering the six-point spread in over 60 percent of simulations, and it has the over hitting in well over 50 percent of sims.
