Aaron Rodgers now stands alone in Green Bay Packers history. During the club’s Christmas day matchup against the Cleveland Browns, the three-time NFL MVP surpassed Hall of Famer Brett Favre for the franchise’s all-time touchdown record.
The history-making throw came in the first quarter of this holiday matchup as Rodgers connected with receiver Allen Lazard for the score to put Green Bay up, 7-6. Specifically, the Packers were sitting on the Browns 11-yard line on a third-and-5 play. He dropped back and quickly fired a throw to the right side of the field where Lazard was able to haul in the catch, turn upfield and dive towards the pylon for the touchdown.
Rodgers came into this game with 442 touchdowns for his career after throwing for three scores during last week’s win over the Baltimore Ravens. That knotted him up with Favre for the record, which has now been exceeded.
“Hey, 12,” Favre said in a video released by the team following Rodgers’ record-breaking touchdown. “Congratulations, man on breaking my touchdown record. I have one request: go get us another Super Bowl.”
While Rodgers may have topped Favre in touchdown throws, the other Packers legend still owns the franchise’s all-time passing yards mark of 61,655. With Rodgers coming into this game with Cleveland with 54,732 for his career and his future with the organization up in the air following the 2021 campaign, Favre could still have a grasp of one legendary record.
