Getty Images The 2021 MLB postseason is down to just four teams, with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox battling in the LCS round. The Astros and Braves are both one win away from the World Series. The Astros collected back-to-back ALCS victories over the Red Sox to take a 3-2 series lead ahead of Friday’s Game 6 in Houston. In the NLCS, the Braves are up, 3-2, over the Dodgers. The defending champion Dodgers kept season alive with a win in Game 5 on Thursday night. NLCS Game 6 is set for Saturday in Atlanta.
MLB used a 16-team postseason format during the pandemic-shortened 60-game season a year ago. This season they’re going back to the usual 10-team format. As a reminder, the three division winners in each league advance directly to the League Division Series. The non-division winners with the two best records met in the Wild Card Game, with the winner advancing to face the team with the league’s best record in the LDS. The LDS was a best-of-five, and the League Championship Series and World Series are both best-of-sevens.
