High school football rankings: Miami Central replaces Corner Canyon in MaxPreps Top 25

No. 3 Westlake (Austin, Texas) had one of the most impressive wins, but it came at a cost. Clemson-bound quarterback Cade Klubnik left the game with a shoulder injury in the first half of the Chaparrals’ 35-0 win over previously unbeaten Bowie (Austin). He’s expected to miss a few weeks and return before postseason play begins in early November.
The two other Lone Star State teams in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings earned lopsided victories as well.
No. 10 Katy improved to 7-0 after the Tigers scored a season-high 65 points against Mayde Creek (Houston). The defending 6A Division 2 state champs have won 15 games straight dating back to last season. No. 12 Southlake Carroll (Southlake) cruised to a 63-7 win over Keller Central (Keller) and is winning games by an average margin of 33.3 points this season.
The lone team to join the MaxPreps Top 25 is a familiar name. Miami Central (Fla.) is back in the rankings for the second time this season after Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) dropped out. The Chargers had their 48-game win streak snapped. Meanwhile, the Rockets have won four in a row since dropping back-to-back games against No. 5 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) and No. 18 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) to open the season.
No. 2 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) returns to action this week after two weeks off. The Ascenders have outscored their first five opponents 279-31 and host St. Thomas More (Oakdale, Conn.) on Friday.
The biggest game of the week is going down in Indiana as No. 9 Center Grove (Greenwood) faces a huge road test against Cathedral (Indianapolis). The Fighting Irish are on the cusp of joining the MaxPreps Top 25 and a win over the defending 6A state champs would help the cause. The Trojans have won 22 straight games and have outscored their first eight opponents 373-88 this season.
